YOU ARE FROM TURKEY AND YOU WANT TO GET AN ONTARIO DRIVER’S LICENSE? THIS STEP-BY-STEP DRIVER’S LICENSE ARTICLE IS FOR YOU!

THIS STEP-BY-STEP DRIVER’S LICENSE ARTICLE IS FOR YOU!

Hello Dear Friends,

Are you from Turkey and planning to get a driver’s license in Canada (Ontario)? What steps do you need to follow for G1, G2, and G licenses?

Should you go for a G2 license or a G license?

Is getting a direct G license a dream?

This week’s article is here to answer your questions.

Step 1: What to do first?

– Get your driver’s license translated.

You can do this by booking an appointment via the consulate’s website or using the services of ATIO (Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario). Avoid bringing translations made in Turkey.

Note: If you are having your translation done by an ATIO-certified translator, you should also download your driving record from the e-Devlet platform and have it translated as well. You can find the list of ATIO members and their contact details at https://atio.on.ca/directory/.

Note 2: If you have at least 2 years of driving experience in Turkey, you can directly take the G Full license test. If your experience is less than 2 years, you will need to wait until you reach the 2-year threshold.

Note 3: Whether or not a translation is required depends on the officer handling your case. Some officers process applications without a translation, while others require one.

– Take the G1 written test.

You can enter this test with any of the following documents: passport, student ID, residency permit, work permit, refugee documentation (yellow sheet), or any other document showing your immigration status.

Note: You do not need a translation of your Turkish driver’s license for the G1 test. The translation is required for the G test. If you go to the test centers without translations, you can still get a G1 license, but you will have to visit the test center again to process the translations.

– During the test, you will undergo a vision test and have your photo taken. Don’t forget your glasses or contact lenses. Gentlemen, mind your hair. Ladies, as always, you’re ready and beautiful 😊.

How much will you pay?

G1 Test: $106 + $91.25 for the G test (if you bring translations).

G1 Test: $106 + $53.75 for the G2 test (if you don’t bring translations initially; you will later pay an additional $91.25 for the G test. If you pass the test, you can request a refund of $53.75 at the test center).

Getting a G license isn’t as hard as some make it out to be. Don’t let people who failed scare you with excuses like, “The test is impossible,” “They didn’t pass me because they were racist,” or “They don’t like direct G license applications.” Just prepare according to the G license evaluation criteria, and read my article explaining these criteria before you go.

Now let’s move on to the Q&A section!

Q&A

Question 1: What is the G1 written test like, and how do I prepare?

Answer: The G1 written test consists of questions on traffic signs and rules. You can prepare by reading the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. You can also take the test in Turkish. It includes 20 questions on traffic signs and 20 questions on traffic rules. You are allowed up to 4 mistakes in each section. If you pass one section but fail the other, you can retake the failed section for $16. Check out the G1 Turkish practice questions I’ve added in the menu.

Question 2: I have an old-style Turkish driver’s license. Is it accepted?

Answer: Yes, old-style licenses are accepted.

Question 3: I lost my license but have a photocopy. Is it accepted?

Answer: No, the original license is required. If you are a refugee and have over 2 years of experience, you can still take the G2 and G Full tests, but your experience will be calculated as 1 day less than 2 years.

Question 4: I’m in Ontario on a tourist visa. Can I get a driver’s license?

Answer: Yes, you can take the G1 written test with your passport.

Question 5: I have driving experience from Turkey, but the G road test seems hard. Should I take the G2 road test instead?

Answer: Prepare according to the G test evaluation criteria, and take the G test without hesitation. Knowing how you’ll be evaluated and practicing accordingly is key.

Question 6: I just arrived from Turkey and don’t have a license. How long do I have to wait to get a G2 license?

Answer: The waiting period from G1 to G2 is 1 year, which can be reduced to 8 months with a driving course certificate (30 hours of online video courses + 10 hours of in-car training). This certificate also gives an insurance discount of $500–$1200 annually.

Question 7: My translations are ready. Do you recommend a specific test center for the G1 test?

Answer: Avoid busy downtown centers as they often have long queues. Northern areas tend to have shorter wait times.

Question 8: Can I give up my license while applying for the Ontario Photo Card?

Answer: No, do not surrender your license during this process. You’ll need it to validate your experience.

Question 9: I have experience but don’t speak English. Can I still take the road test?

Answer: Yes, instructors are responsible for preparing you for the test, including all dialogues and commands.

Question 10: Can I rent a car with a G1 license?

Answer: No, you cannot rent a car with a G1 license.

Question 11: How can I drive with a G1 license?

Answer: You must have someone with at least 4 years of G experience in the car with you. You can only drive on highways with an instructor.

Question 12: How long can I drive in Ontario with a Turkish license?

Answer: Visitors can use their license for up to 3 months. If staying longer, you’ll need an International Driver’s Permit.

Question 13: Can I buy a car with a G1 license?

Answer: No, you cannot buy a car with a Turkish or G1 license.

Question 14: I got my G1 license, but the system shows a mismatch error when booking an appointment. What should I do?

Answer: Add 5 years to the “Effective Date” on your license for the “Driver’s License Expiry” field. For example, if the effective date is 2023/01/01, enter 2028/01/01.

I know this is a long and detailed article. Welcome again to Canada! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via social media or WhatsApp. Don’t feel alone, and avoid misinformation.

Wishing you a great life in Canada!
