THE 3 MOST COMMON WRONG DRIVING BEHAVIORS IN TRAFFIC

Hello Dear Friends,

Many of us unknowingly engage in improper driving behaviors, which unfortunately can lead to fear, fines, or accidents. This week, I will focus on just three common mistakes.

Let’s dive right into it without further ado:

1. Do Not Slow Down While Changing Lanes!

Dear drivers, many of us instinctively hit the brakes and reduce speed while changing lanes to feel safer. This is a big risk. For example, imagine moving into a lane where cars are traveling at 60 km/h, but you enter at 40 km/h—this can create dangerous situations.

Tip: Always change lanes at the speed of the traffic flow in the lane you’re entering.

2. Know Where to Stop When Turning Left at Intersections!

In Canada, left turns at intersections can be confusing, especially if you’re not familiar with the rules.

When you have a solid green light and want to turn left:

• If you are the first vehicle, move forward enough so that your rear tires pass the pedestrian line.

• Wait in the middle until it’s safe to turn (i.e., no oncoming vehicles or pedestrians).

• Remember, the green light is primarily for through traffic, so you must yield and proceed only when the road is clear.

Important: If the vehicle behind you honks while you’re waiting, don’t rush! Ensure the road is safe before turning.

3. Pay Attention to Stop Signs

Understanding whether a stop sign applies to one direction or all directions is critical. Always check if the stop sign has an “ALL WAY” indicator when approaching.

Some drivers mistakenly assume all stop signs require every car to stop, which can lead to accidents.

Quick Tip:

• Only 8-sided signs are used for stop signs.

• If there’s a rectangular plate beneath the stop sign, it typically indicates “ALL WAY.”

• If you stop at your sign and notice another vehicle’s stop sign nearby, check the shape and labels on the sign to confirm its type.

Dear Friends,

Instead of covering all common mistakes in one go, I’ve decided to break them into a series of posts for better engagement and understanding. My aim is to help you avoid accidents and penalties.

Stay safe and alert on the roads.
