Hello Dear Friends,
Wishing you a safe and cheerful week ahead.
Fifty speed cameras installed last summer have issued 53,090 tickets in just 5 months.
Was it enough? Apparently not! Another 50 speed cameras are coming this May!
Drive safely and stay fine-free. Remember, speeding is a recipe for disaster!
Let’s dive into the details.
Between June and November last year, Toronto installed 50 speed cameras, which issued a total of 53,090 tickets within five months. The most fines (5,404 tickets) were issued at Renforth Drive & Lafferty Street in Etobicoke (as shown in the picture).
According to an announcement by The City of Toronto, 50 new speed cameras will be activated starting this May.
Fines will be automatically sent to the vehicle owner, regardless of who was driving, and no demerit points will be added to the driver’s record.
Fines:
• For every 1 km/h over the speed limit: $5
• If speeding by 20–29 km/h: $7.50 per km/h
• If speeding by 30–49 km/h: $12 per km/h
• If speeding by 50 km/h or more: Court summons
For example:
• If the speed limit is 50 km/h and you’re driving at 60 km/h, the 10 km/h overage will cost you $50.
• If you’re driving at 80 km/h in the same 50 km/h zone, the 30 km/h overage will cost you $360.
