QUESTIONS ABOUT MAKING AN APPOINTMENT

Hello Dear Friends,

It’s been a while since we’ve done a Q&A! In this post, I’ll answer some of the frequently asked questions I receive about booking road test appointments. I hope this helps clarify things and resolves any confusion.

Question 1: The appointment system always shows as full. Is there a trick to booking an appointment?

Answer: Since March 2020, over 421,827 appointments were canceled. On top of that, new drivers have entered the system, making it even harder to secure an appointment. Unfortunately, the only solution is to keep checking the system frequently. Booking an appointment has become a challenge across the entire province.

Question 2: Can you book an appointment for me? Do you have special access or paid services for bookings?

Answer: Dear friends, driving instructors and schools do not have access to a special booking system.

We all use the same www.drivetest.ca website to search for appointments. There are no reserved slots for instructors or driving schools. For me to book an appointment for you, I would need to do the same thing you do, which I don’t have time for. Additionally, I do not book appointments for a fee.

Question 3: I recently got my G1 (temporary paper license without a photo), but I can’t register in the system. What am I doing wrong?

Answer: Go to www.drivetest.ca and click “Book A Road Test.” Enter your email, driver’s license number, and the Effective Date listed on your temporary paper license (add five years to this date). Click “Submit.” You’ll receive an email—click “Verify.” Congratulations, you are now registered in the system.

Note: When entering the Driver’s Licence Expiry date, add five years to the Effective Date on your temporary license.

Example: If the Effective Date is 2021/07/07, enter 2026/07/07 as the expiry date.

Question 4: I live in North York. Can I take my test at a different location?

Answer: Yes, you can book your test at any test center you prefer.

Question 5: The system shows an available date, but when I click it, I see the message, “Sorry, there are no more available time slots for this date.” Why can’t I book it?

Answer: If this happens, someone else likely booked that slot just before you. Once their booking is finalized, that date will disappear from the system.

Question 6: I booked my test for a far-off date in December. Can I reschedule?

Answer: Yes, you can reschedule up to 3 times.

Here’s how:

1. On the www.drivetest.ca homepage, click “Edit an Existing Road Test” under “Book A Road Test.”

2. Enter your license number and expiry date.

3. Click “Reschedule” on your appointment details and select a new date.

Note: Your appointment will only change after you click “Submit.” Until then, your current booking remains secure.

Question 7: What’s the best time slot for a road test?

Answer: If you’re lucky enough to find an appointment, don’t overthink the timing. However, if you have multiple options, the best times are generally between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Question 8: My test is approaching, but I’m not ready, or something urgent has come up. What should I do?

Answer: You can cancel or reschedule your test up to 48 hours before the appointment. If less than 48 hours remain, you may lose your payment.

Question 9: I have a Turkish license, but the system says “Not Eligible” for a G test. Why?

Answer: You need to verify your driving experience at a test center. This requires a translated version of your license, which can be done through the consulate or an ATIO-approved translator. You’ll also need an e-devlet driving history report, translated by an ATIO translator. Once completed, you’ll become eligible to book your G test.

Question 10: I have a G1 license and no prior driving experience. How can I book a test as soon as possible?

Answer: The standard waiting period to take the G2 test after obtaining your G1 is 1 year. However, with a driving school certificate, you can shorten this to 8 months.

If you complete 30 hours of online theory and 10 hours of in-car training, you’ll receive a certificate. By registering this certificate with Service Ontario, you can reduce your waiting period by 4 months and also qualify for an insurance discount of $500-$1200 per year. Check with your insurance provider to confirm these savings.

I hope these Q&As have been helpful. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out, and I’ll do my best to assist you.

Wishing you all the best in securing an appointment and passing your road tests. May the road ahead be smooth and bright!
