BEWARE OF THESE FINES!

BEWARE OF THESE FINES!

Hello Dear Friends,

This week, I wanted to highlight some fines and penalties you might encounter if you’re not careful.

You can also check out my article about demerit points at https://ehliyet.ca/hangi-hata-kac-ceza-puani-getirir/.

Let’s get started.

1. License Plate Tag Renewal

Although license plate sticker payments have been removed, you must still complete the online plate registration. Failure to do so can result in a $240 fine.

(I’ve listed this first since sticker refunds often cause confusion.)

2. UBER/LYFT Decals

Vehicles operating for Uber or Lyft without proper decals on the front or rear can face a $240 fine.

3. Parking Tickets

Parking tickets are among the most commonly issued fines. Always check your surroundings before parking!

• Are you within 3 meters of a fire hydrant or a “No Parking” sign?

• Is it a designated accessible parking spot?

Even if you’re just stopping for “2 minutes” to pick up or deliver food, enforcement officers may still find you and issue a ticket. Fines range from $30 to $450.

4. Using a Phone While Driving

Holding your phone while driving can result in a fine of $595.

5. Passing Emergency Vehicles on the Shoulder

If you see police, fire trucks, ambulances, or tow trucks with their lights on in the right shoulder, you must move to the left lane. Do not drive in the lane next to the shoulder.

Fines range from $400 to $2000.

6. Not Wearing a Seatbelt

Failing to wear a seatbelt can result in fines between $200 and $1000.

7. Turning Right on a Red Light Without Stopping

Not coming to a complete stop before turning right at a red light (or turning in less than 3 seconds) can result in a $325 fine.

8. Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign

Not fully stopping at a stop sign can result in a $110 fine.

9. Not Signaling While Turning

Failing to use your turn signal can result in a $110 fine.

10. Speed Camera Fines

Caught by a speed camera? The fine depends on your speed over the limit:

• $5 per km/h,

• $7.50 per km/h,

• $12 per km/h, depending on the severity.

Dear Friends,

Paying these fines is just the beginning. Demerit points can cause your insurance rates to skyrocket.

If you believe a fine is unfair or you were unaware of the rules, don’t hesitate to contest it. I’ll discuss dispute and payment methods in a future article.

Feel free to add any fines I may have missed in the comments!

Wishing you safe and ticket-free journeys.
